Kod Fazana 1822

Kod Fazana 1822

Kod Fazana is the first restaurant mentioned in the archives of the city of Novi Sad in 1822, and now, after more than 200 years, it has reopened in the same place, at 9 Njegoševa Street in the centre of the Vojvodina capital. It is precisely because of the restaurant that Njegoševa Street was named Fazanova Street a long time ago. Theatre performances were also held in it around 1840, under the leadership of Joakim Vujić. Leteće Diletantsko Pozorište theatre held its first performances here, they were the forerunners of the Serbian National Theatre. Many important events of that era took place Kod Fazana, and one of the biggest events was a big, glamorous ball where money was collected for the establishment of the Serbian Reading Room, today known as the City Library.

Later, in the 19th century, the facility was a Roman Catholic School, and from 1953 until 2021, it became the Isidor Bajić Music School, where future professional musical artists, such as composer Stevan Divjaković, famous Slobodan Trkulja, pianist Mladen Čolić and others spent their best school days.
