Warm Up: Performances of Novi Sad Bands in the Open on 12 January

There are only two days left until the moment when Novi Sad will shine as the European Capital of Culture within the Doček programme arch, with which the citizens of Novi Sad and their guests sailed into the title year. As the unique celebration in Europe, Doček combines two arts, two alphabets, two new years, two days, two calculations of time, thus Doček 7530 will bring a kind of celebration that pushes boundaries.

As an introduction to the euphoric atmosphere of the opening ceremony, but also all the events planned for Doček 7530, Festival in Public Spaces – Warm Up will be held at several locations in the city centre on 12 January. The festival is implemented by the Inbox Art Association, with a rich music programme performed by Novi Sad bands, thus representing the city’s music scene.

‘Warm Up’ with 12 concerts at six locations

The citizens of Novi Sad and their guests will have a chance to listen to 12 concerts at six locations from 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Novi Sad band JAL (Josip A Lisac) will perform at the Fish Market (Špajz salaša 137) on 12 January at 5 p.m., and at the same time the audience will listen to the band UV band in the passage near Bulevar Books and DDOR, as well as the Dragon’s Fuel quartet at the Hotel Vojvodina. In the passage of the New Nork shopping centre, in Poštanska Street, the punk rock band Zbogom Brus Li will perform, while the band Kilo Kilo Banda will perform in the underground passage near the Post Office. The concert of the Atheist Rap band will start at 5 p.m. in Zmaj Jovina Street (near Telenor).

The Novi Sad band Gift will start their performance at 6 p.m. at the Fish Market (Špajz salaša 137), while the Love Hunters will perform in the passage near Bulevar Books and DDOR. Hotel Vojvodina is also reserved for the Šinobusi band, while Stefan i akustični gadovi will perform at the New Nork shopping centre, in the passage near the Poštanska Street. From 6 p.m., the audience will also listen to KLO klo in the underground passage near the Post Office, while Plavi ptičić will perform in Zmaj Jovina Street (near Telenor).

People of My City at SULUV from 12 January

‘People of My City’ exhibition by Lithuanian photographer Ramune Pigagaite, will be opened at the SULUV Gallery the day before the gala opening, 12 January, at 7 p.m. The artist, who currently lives and works in Germany, is returning to her childhood and to her hometown of Varėna through the exhibition, where she photographed fellow citizens and foreigners. The exhibition was created in cooperation with Kaunas – the European Capital of Culture and the Kaunas Gallery.

The central event of the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture opening ceremony play ‘Zeniteum :: 2022’, directed by Dragan Živadinov, is scheduled for 13 January at 8:22 p.m. on one of the main city boulevards, in front of Banovina building. The play will celebrate the great names of Serbian science – Mileva Marić Einstein and Milutin Milanković. The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on the second programme of the Radio Television of Serbia and the first programme of the Radio Television of Vojvodina, as well as on the official websites of Doček and ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.

The gala opening will be marked by a great and unusual ‘Time and Universe’ exhibition  in the hall of Studio M from 6 p.m., as well as exhibitions, concerts and performances at several locations in the city.

The ceremony of declaring Novi Sad the cultural capital will be held at the Serbian National Theatre, and the audience will be able to watch it exclusively via live TV broadcast on the second programme of the Radio Television of Serbia and the first programme of the RadioTelevision of Vojvodina from 6 p.m. The programme will be broadcast on our website docekns.rs, as well as on the official website of the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation.

Change of traffic regime due to the gala opening of the European Capital of Culture

We remind you that until Sunday, 16 January, until 8 a.m., traffic will be closed on the part of Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, from the intersection of Žarko Zrenjanin and Modena streets, to the intersection of Pionirska and Jovan Đorđević streets. Also, the traffic from the intersection of Sonje Marinković and Ive Lole Ribara streets, the entire Pionirska Street, as well as a part of Jovana Đorđevića Street will be closed, so drivers can get out of Ilija Vučetića Street, turning left into Jovana Đorđevića Street.

Until 16 January, the parking lot next to the Banovina building in Jovana Đorđevića Street, the parking lot in Pionirska Street, as well as the parking lot in front of the ‘Carigrad’ patisserie will be closed. In the period from Wednesday, 12 January, from 11 p.m. to Friday, 14 January, until 2 p.m., there will be a temporary ban on parking in the public garage behind the building of the Serbian National Theatre, as well as next to the official entrance to the Serbian National Theatre.

In the same period, a temporary ban on parking in the public parking lot in Ingnjata Pavlasa Street, from the intersection with Konstantina Danila Street towards Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, and a temporary ban on parking in two parking lots in the parking lot in Podgorička Street next to the NIS building will apply.
