Barka Cultural Station

Barka Cultural Station

Located at the edge of the city, between Slana Bara, Vidovdansko Naselje and Klisa, Barka Cultural Station is a new place for culture in Novi Sad.

As one of the major infrastructure projects within the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture project, Barka Cultural Station contributes to fellow citizens experiencing this region as a new centre of happenings and an alluring location with numerous cultural events. With spaces for artists in residence, the Barka Cultural Station has great potential to position itself on the regional cultural scene as well. The relations between the centre and the periphery, inclusion and exclusion from the community and emigration, as characteristic of Novi Sad, are some of the most important identity determinants of Barka.

As part of the cultural station, there is a branch of the City Library and the local community quarters of Slana Bara. Also, in addition to the hall suitable for contemporary theatre, performances, concerts and various other events, there is also a large courtyard that provides opportunities for organising events outdoors.

In the simple and functional space of Barka, in a modern and interactive way, the cultural heritage of this region is presented and the richness of the diversity of its population is made approachable.

The two legendary vocals of the local pop and hard rock scene, after more than successful collaboration on their single ‘Gde si?’ (Eng. Where Are You?), the first online concert during the lockdown and joint live performances across the region, Đorđe David and Ivana Peters will make a night to remember at Barka CS on 13 January as part of Doček 7531.
